Located in the rural township of Garema, this project was commissioned to provide a comfortable, self-sufficient home that would support independent living for years to come while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
From the outset, the brief was clear: to create a practical and energy-efficient residence tailored specifically to the needs of its owner, with a focus on accessibility, ease of movement, and everyday comfort. The home needed to support independent living without compromising on style, functionality, or the sense of home that comes from thoughtful design.
Every aspect of the layout was carefully considered to improve usability and accessibility. Wider circulation spaces, step-free access, customised bathroom features, and mobility-friendly design elements have been incorporated throughout the home to ensure it remains comfortable, safe, and adaptable as needs change over time.
A key objective of the project was achieving complete off-grid independence. The home has been designed to operate without reliance on traditional utility connections, incorporating sustainable systems and infrastructure that allow for comfortable year-round living in a regional setting.
